BRRRR, did it feel a bit chilly (again) this morning?

Tauranga has recorded the coldest night of the year so far with 1.7 °C, and a heavy frost on the golf course this morning. At least the polar blast wind on Monday and Tuesday is now gone and the weekend weather is looking great. Wrap up warm and enjoy your round of golf.

I’Anson Trophy (11th July)

This annual event is hosted at Omokoroa Golf club on 11th July from 10am. We are expecting a field of 120 players from Tauranga, Mount Maunganui, Omanu, Otumoetai, Te Puke and Omokoroa. Hopefully the weather God is good to us to showcase our beautiful golf course to the visitors.

Twilight Golf Fans

To all the Twilight Golf fans, I am still working on the format for the upcoming season from October to March 2022. It is perhaps a good time to start thinking about choosing your playing partner (Team of 2). We will try to introduce some fun each week with different playing formats. If you are happy to help or to sponsor this event, email me on omokcaptain@gmail.com

All ladies who finished the round on Tuesday are to be congratulated as the weather was foul. All consequently received a prize.

Pennants:

Tuesday ladies played the final round of BOP Matchplay Pennants on Monday, this time at Tauranga Golf Club. We were ably represented by Liz Clark, Pink Leow and Cherry Reehal in the Silver division and Christine Millward, Dee McCrea and Diana Price in the Bronze. All six ladies won their match making Omokoroa equal winners on the day! Over the four matchplay rounds in the BOP competition, Omokoroa finished 5th overall in Silver and 4th overall in Bronze. Well done everyone, a great effort.

Ilma Shergold:

On Wednesday after Vets’ golf we farewelled foundation member Ilma Shergold in the company of current members and several of Ilma’s former golfing buddies. It was a super afternoon of catching up and reminiscing. Ilma may have retired from golf but she’ll will be back to present the Shergold Trophy and to join the ladies on social occasions.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

We play the 1/4 Finals of the Handicaps Matchplay this week. The tee off times have been sent out and are on the Clubhouse window with the draw. Competitors can play their matches in their own time if both players are agreeable.

Handicap Pennants Interclub

Our team were narrowly beaten by the Mount Club. Unfortunately, two of our team had carts booked and had to default when the Tauranga Club closed the course to carts on Sunday morning. With so many players involved in the Eagles Tournament at our course, we were unable to get any replacements and defaulted the two matches. Ben Van Den Borst, Tyler King and Jonathan Lewis had wins while Neil Howard halved his match. The Team play against the Fairview Side at Otumoetai this Sunday in the Plate Event.

Fundraiser Event for Caitlan Maurice

A large number of Omokoroa Players are participating in an Ambrose Tournament at Te Puke on Sunday to help Caitlan on her journey to University in USA.

Eagles Foursomes Event

Unfortunately, a wet and windy day meant there were a lot of withdrawals on Sunday in the annual Eagles Tournament. We had 57 pairs lined up, but ended up with only 38 playing on the day. It was still a fun format and the visitors certainly enjoyed our Course.

Wednesday the 7th of July

Next Wednesday's event is a stableford competition for the ladies and the two divisions for men. The Naked Meat's Shootout continues.

Week just been

Winter has arrived!! Although the day was clear the crisp breeze wafting across the course was a clear reminder that we are no longer playing in summer conditions. Although the course was dry it is soft underfoot and Wednesday scores reflected that both on the scoreboard and the use of the PCC (Playing Conditions Calculation) being applied to Wednesdays scores in DotGolf. The PCC is a computer calculation that adjusts our scores to reflect our true playing ability. Scores can be adjusted down if the course is playing easy and up if conditions are tough.

Congratulations to Gail Nicholls, Diane Hughes and Jenny Shirley for taking out the major prizes in the Ladies comp. and to Michael Dow, Tony Parkinson, Alan Thomson and Ron Deadman, Swampy Marsh and Scott Gwynne for their results in the Men’s divisions.

There was only one two on the day… Welcome back Rob Mitford-Burgess.

Kiwi All Stars

There was a turnout of 32 for the second test between the Kiwi All Stars and the Rest of the World. Teams were greeted by a beautiful winter’s morning but somehow the fine weather does not appear to have been matched by the quality of the golf.

Stableford points were used to determine this weeks winning team with the Kiwis scoring an average of 13.5 to the ROTW 12.89.

The Kiwi All Stars are therefore worthy winners of the trophy and the final match next week is a dead rubber. However the ROTW team will no doubt be eager to avoid a whitewash.

Winners of the Stableford Haggle were:

Division 1

Frank Baggenstos 18

Ken Hartley 17

Alan Winter 17

Bob Duckworth 16

Division 2

Denis Douglas 18

Kevin Crossman 17

Jerry Walker 16

Francis Jackson 15

2’s

Congratulations to Horton Schofield for scoring a 2 on Hole #4

Raffle prizes went to Barry O’Brien, Ted Parker and Tom Hansen.
