Last Wednesday we had a field of 33 players at Twilight enjoying 9 holes of golf, a sausage sizzle, raffles and prize giving. Entry is $5 for members and $15 for NZ Golf Affiliated members. Tee off between 4:30pm - 5:45pm. We have received some enquiries via Facebook after photo was uploaded to Omokoroa Golf Club Facebook page (see attached photo). So hopefully we will get more players joining this social event.

Just a few updates from me this week and a sweet reminder, it’s Valentines Day this coming Sunday.

Course Closure for Vets Tournament (17-19 February)

The Vets will be hosting a 3 Day Vets tournament from 17-19th February. Tee bookings will be available for causal play from 2:30pm. Please remember to book your tee time via Omokoroa Golf Club website or Dotgolf or ring the office if you need any assistance.

7th Hole, 8th Hole & 18th Hole

The 7th hole is now back in play. Please keep a look out for players walking back on the 7th fairway (along the fence) when you are on the Tee Box. We have placed a SIGN on each Tee as a reminder. The Red pegs have been placed along the fence on the 7th. If your shot is through the fence you are deemed to be in the hazard – one shot penalty applies. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RETRIEVE BALLS

The White pegs have been placed along the fence on the 8th. If your shot is through the fence you are deemed to be Out of Bounds.

Blue pegs have been placed along the fence by the work site adjacent to the 18th tee block. If your shot is through the fence you are deemed to be in the GUR and no penalty is applied.

Again, many thanks to all members for your patience during the course upgrade.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This Saturday we play the 3rd round of the Carroll Cup which is best 3 out of 4 nett scores. At the halfway point Steve Vaega is leading from Swampy Marsh and Crusher Chapman. The normal haggle will be played and at prize giving there will be a lucky player draw for $250.

The Club Matchplay Championships starts in a fortnight with four divisions to cater to all players. The entry lists are on the notice board in the men’s changing room.

Also on the notice board are the entry list to represent the Club in Pennants Interclub starting soon. The draws are posted too, so you can plan ahead and see what you are available for. The rules and draws are on the BOP website under the “Pennants “ heading.

The Green Shed

Many thanks to the team of volunteers who turned out at short notice (and in the rain!) to remove the turf from the 8th tee block. This is now being stored alongside the ladies 3rd tee, and can hopefully be used elsewhere on the course. The level of the 8th tee block will now be raised and relaid with new turf.

If the weather forecast was to be believed, the odd shower and bit of drizzle was what we were in for on our ladies’ opening day 3-person ambrose. As it turned out, we were all duly soaked by heavy rain, the greens became water-logged and the event was called off after 9 holes.

However, well done to the rugged 30 who persevered and prizes were awarded for 9 holes rather than 18. New member, Jan Gyenge, was one of the troupers present. Welcome Jan, lovely to have you join us. Next week we begin our 2021 programme with the first round of the National Teams nett competition. Also, if you’re planning on entering the Shoot Out this year, then registration for that will be open, $20.

What a wonderful day to kick start our Official Competition.

We had a good turnout of 30 happy golfers keen to enjoy a day of fun in the sun.  Format for the day was Stableford playing Hidden Pairs.  Pairs were determined after the completion of all rounds so the final scoring results were very much pot-luck!

The prize money went to:

  • 1st Allan Hoskins (18) & Vic Sterling (22) 40
  • 2nd Jim Avis (20) and Bruce Blair (17) 37
  • 3rd John Carmichael (15) & Tom Hansen (20) 35
  • 4th Spencer Tankard (16) & Lynton Holmes (19) 35
  • 5th Ernest Taylor (18) & Murray Wills (16) 34

We continued to spread the love around by tossing a few Hazards onto both Front and Back 9’s

On the Front 9:

  • Closest to the Rope Hoop on Hole #2 Colin Gill
  • Closest to the Pin on Hole #4 Frank Brown
  • Longest Putt on Hole #9 Barry O'Brien

On the Back 9:

  • Closest to the Rope Hoop on Hole #13 Max Richie
  • Closest to the Pin on Hole #11 Robert Hay
  • Longest Putt on Hole #18 Spencer Tankard

And for good measure the 3 Raffle prizes were won by:

  • Alan Poore $10
  • Spencer Tankard Wine
  • Bruce Blair Chocolates
Last but not least - the Mystery Prizes!

Thank you to Noel Benstead of Tremains Real Estate for generously supporting our group with a donation of

  • A Bottle of Red Wine
  • A Box of Chocolates
  • A Tin of Cookies

All duly awarded and gratefully received.

Next Thursday 11th our format will be Par playing off 3 Tees (3 x Blue, 3 x White, 3 x Yellow).
The following Thursday 18th the course has been booked out for the Vets 3 Day Tournament.
This necessitates an Away Game and the popular vote is for another round at Fairview Golf Club.
Until next week at Omokoroa.

Happy Golfing!
