Captains Corner

Pink Leow

We are into the 3rd day of hosting 339 players for the BOP 5 Course Classics this week. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to make the event a great success. This will be one of the main event that we have to run so I am off for a fishing trip from Friday and looking forward to seeing you on 29th January for our fun Quiz night.

As usual, Just a few updates from my end:

Club Opening Day (29th January – Quiz Night)

The booking sheet is filling up pretty fast. I hope to see some of the team dressing up for the event. Remember, it’s meant to be fun. Cost will be $15 per person for the food and the Quiz. If you can’t get 8 people, just put your name down to join other’s group. All entries to be pre-paid at the office.

Compulsory Tee Booking

With the summer month and not able to travel overseas, we have had lots of players on the golf course, be it green fee players or members.

I would like to stress the importance of Tee bookings to all members, whether it is for COVID tracing or not, everyone must make a tee booking and similarly, cancel their booking if NO Show.

Caitlin Maurice

Congratulations to our very own Catlin Maurice, who was signed up by The Sacramento State Women’s Golf team in November 2020. Caitlin will be enrolling as freshmen at the University in the fall of 2021 and wishing her all the best for her new adventure.

From time to time I send emails to Vet's members on Vet's goings-on. If a member wishes to receive emails just let me know by emailing vetsgolfomokoroa@gmail.com

Congrats to last week's winners, you obviously handled the heat better than I and many others did.

A final reminder about the Vet's 3 day Pairs tournament on 17-18-19 February. We have over 100 players entered now so be in quick if you haven't entered. nzvga.co.nz will take you to where you can find the on-line entry form.

Vet's Wednesday golf returns next Wednesday the 27th. See you all then.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This week we play the final round of the Summer Cup. A lot of players are still in the hunt to win if they produce a fine last round. The qualifying for the “A-One Kitchens and Interiors” Shootout at the end of the year started last week. You need to pay the $40 entry before your Saturday scores will count, so before play on Saturday pay up to the Starters and get on board.

Last Saturday was the first time our new voucher for the best gross score of the day was awarded thanks to  sponsor Ben van den Borst. We are going to alternate each week between Senior and Junior divisions for the best gross of the day. The first winner was Brett Dingle who shot a superb 76. This Saturday it will be a Division 2 winner.

Pennants Interclub Competition

We have teams entered in four divisions which starts in February. The draws and entry lists are on the notice board in the men’s changing room. Neil Howard is the Championship team Captain, with Hugh Clark in charge of the Intermediates, Steve Davis, the Juniors, and the  Presidents Grade organised by Hugh.

 Men’s Committee Meeting

There is a meeting this Saturday at 9.30 a.m. for the Men so if anyone has any suggestions or issues please speak to one of the committee members.

Hi Members,
I have settled in and am starting to get a real feel for this great club and why you have such a great reputation.  I have about 60 names remembered so far so keep helping me there. So many of you have come and introduced yourself and I so appreciate the warm welcome. I also joined the ladies last Saturday and had a great day out on the course and felt very welcome there as well so thank you all.  My handicap has been issued finally and I will be starting on a 34 so look out cause I will be working on that.

We have been very lucky to have had visitors from all over the country this week with the BOP5CC.  Will be posting some pics on our new facebook page. If your not a member I invite you to follow us here on this link:  (8) Omokoroa Golf Club | Facebook
This is a good money earner and promotional event for our club so we are lucky to be a part of it.  Our normal program returns from this Friday with the Haggle. We have had high accolades all week so far from players and ParNZ organisers so well done Pink and her team on an excellent job. One day of play to go.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
I am working where I can to reduce unnecessary admin from week to week and streamline things a little. Megan suggested before she left that having an annual renewal date reinstated was a good idea.  So I am starting to role that out with all the renewals due between now an 31 March 2021.  This means that those people will get a partial invoice for the first part of the year to bring them in line with the 1st April renewal date.  Beyond that date depending on how many days until the next renewal of 1st April 2022 fees will be adjusted down by date accordingly.  Any questions please do not heisitate to call past office for me to explain.

Also it was pointed out today that the automated email that goes out from Dot Golf has a $10 charge for payments made if you do it through them.  Please note you are more than welcome make a direct transfer or come by the office to sort your invoice when the time is right and avoid that Dot golf charge.]

Board meeting will be Monday night and the next newsletter will have a board update for you.
